Nick is the Head of Trinity Guildhall and is responsible for a UK Key Stage 2 music program known as Wider Opportunities. Wider Opportunities is one of a number of relatively new programs that have been widely adopted in the UK under their 2001 Music Manifesto.
To date over 3,000 UK primary teachers have been trained and are using the Wider Opportunities with a further 1,500 being trained in 2010/11.
Wider Opportunities is a whole-of-class instrumental approach that integrates classroom and instrumental music learning.
2010 Awards for Excellence in School Music Education
Nominations are now being called for the 2010 Awards for
Excellence in School Music Education, which aim to recognise music teachers
and school leaders for their exceptional contribution to enhancing the
status and quality of music education in their schools.
There will be up to eleven teacher Awards and up to two school leader
Awards. Each recipient of an Award will receive a certificate and a cheque
for $5,000, which is intended to be used to further their professional
learning related to music education.
The closing date is Friday, April 16th, 2010, and all details about the 2010
Awards, including Guidelines, and nomination forms are available on the

Music in Communities Awards 2009.
Congratulations to ‘Music for Everyone’, for taking out a ‘Music in Communities Award’ for 2009.
